In early September, the VersionTracker website was replaced with CNET Downloads, “The largest catalog of software in the world”.  This concludes CNET’s absorption of VersionTracker, which it acquired in 2007 along with MacFixIt.com.

Paying users of VersionTracker Pro can still log into the older VersionTracker site, up until their subscription runs out.

If you’re like me, upon using CNET Downloads to search for Mac software, you’ll likely find it’s not the same as good ‘ol VersionTracker.  Historical user comments have been removed, plus the site is flooded by advertising (most CBS related, who acquired CNET in 2008).

I personally will be using MacUpdate.com going forward.
