I’ve researched the problems that have been reported with Apple’s OS X 10.8.5 update, and although it has a few unique issues, I’m considering it safe for all Macs running Mountain Lion. It fixes issues with transferring large files over Ethernet, improves AFP file transfer performance over Wi-Fi, offers faster authentication to Open Directory servers, and addresses other cosmetic issues like the screen saver not starting automatically and Mail display glitches.
