I’ve begun using a new OS X troubleshooting tool named EtreCheck. It is a freeware app that quickly collects general info about a Mac, similar to Apple’s System Profiler, but reports numerous advanced things including: third-party kernel extensions, third-party Lauch Daemons and Agents, third-party System Preference Panes, user Launch Agents, and User login items. These are all things I often times manually look for when troubleshooting escalated Mac problems, and EtreCheck substantially speeds up the process for gathering this info.
EtreCheck is designed for OS X 10.7-10.9, but I’ve tested it on OS X 10.6 and it works fine. It is being used a lot on the Apple Support Communities.
