While my blog postings of late may appear like a complete El Capitan bashing, I must say its one saving grace is that Metal has been implemented in all system-level graphic operations. Metal is Apple’s new high-performance drawing framework, that pushes more performance out of the hardware. This allows for potential rendering speed improvements across the board, giving everything a snappier feel. Metal is supported on the following Mac models running OS X 10.11 :

  • Early 2015 and newer: MacBook
  • Late 2013 and newer: Mac Pro
  • Mid 2012 and newer: MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac mini, iMac
